Gang of 8 - Brian, Helen & 2 boys (Sam 14 & Russ 11) decide on month long vacation in the US of A. Cazz - 28 and rearing for a hoot of time with long time friend Denise. John & Millie in the mature 60's age bracket want to share the experience, and we want them to act as ballast. After much planning and diligent forethought, we come up with a plan to land in Vegas, travel north to San Francisco, via Sequoia & Yosemite National Parks. 400 miles north, we hear that showers are closing in on San Fran for the weekend. We change route, and do Parks first - with hotels - a number of our group afraid of bear attacks on tents- so had already decided on hotels for the duration of our time in the Parks, and head off North for the Parks instead of San Fran. After landing Las Vegas on Monday 10th March, we secured pre-booked accomodation a couple of miles from the airport. We unloaded, and decided to go out looking for eats. Bri takes off from Hotel entrance into a one way strip of 6 lanes. Cool dude John delays - and gets lost. Bri can't stop, owing to a possible shunt on busy 6 lane highway. Bri not sure if John & Co. even know the name of the hotel we've just left / staying at- help!! Implication too great to contemplate. Caz says - well it was great fun in the car with John. Didn't have a clue where we were going and went in completely the wrong direction. Because LV like most cities is on a grid pattern every turning looks exactly the same. You see the name of the road you want but you don't know which direction you want. So advised John to turn left and then found out it was a one way street and we were going the wrong way down it towards 6 lanes of oncoming traffic. John kept his head when all about were beeping their horns and did a quick uturn saving us from disaster. Stopped a few times to ask direction but really amazing that people living in the city didn't have much of a clue. John deserved his beer when we finally got back to the hotel.
